LEGALIZATION

Thailand is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention or the Hague Convention on the Simplified Authentication of Documents. As a result, official or government documents from Thailand must be prior legalized to be recognized internationally.  Conversely, documents from other countries must first be legalized by the embassy or consular office of the country of origin before undergoing further legalization at the Thai embassy or the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Example of official document issued in Thailand that can be legalized by the Department of Consular Affairs (To be used overseas):

  1. Birth Certificate
  2. Marriage Certificate
  3. Divorce Certificate
  4. Name Changing Certificate
  5. Bank Statement
  6. License and Certificate issued by Thai Government
  7. Educational Certificate
  8. Power of Attorney (Thai person or Thai company)
  9. Police Clearance Certificate
  10. Judgment or Court’s Order
  11. Company’s Certificate
  12. ETC.

Example of official document issued from overseas that can be legalized by the Department of Consular Affairs (To be used in Thailand): (Such documents must have been prior legalized by Embassy of original country of document)

  1. Passport
  2. Marital Status Certificate
  3. Educational Certificate
  4. Product’s certificate

NOTARIZATION

A Notary Public in Thailand is an individual who holds a license issued by the Lawyers Council, granting them the authority to certify various documents, such as certifying the identity of individuals, authenticating signatures, verifying the accuracy of documents, certifying copies of documents, and certifying translations, among others.

  4. Correct Translation of Document
  5. True Identity of Person
